Kawarau Bridge, Nevis Valley, Bob's Peak, Arthurs Point
The Kawarau Bungy Centre is on State Highway 6 at Kawarau Bridge in the Gibbston Valley, roughly halfway between Queenstown and Cromwell. AJ Hackett puts it 23 km and about 25 minutes from Queenstown, with free parking. Its Bungy Bus leaves from the Queenstown Bungy Centre in The Station building, at the corner of Shotover and Camp Streets. The suspension bridge was finished in late 1880 to give access to the goldfields of Central Otago and is a Category I historic place.
The Nevis sites sit high above the Nevis Valley, and AJ Hackett says you cannot drive to them. Its 4WD Bungy Bus leaves from the same corner of Shotover and Camp Streets and drives a narrow gravel track to the site, a 45-minute ride according to the company's spectator listing. A pickup from the Kawarau Bungy Centre can be arranged by phone or live chat to shorten the day.
The Ledge Bungy is near the top of Bob's Peak at Skyline Queenstown, reached by the gondola from the top of Brecon Street, about a 5-minute walk from downtown. Shotover Canyon Swing checks jumpers in at 34 Shotover Street. Its site is at Arthurs Point, about 10 minutes' drive from town, at the end of a 300 m gravel track downhill from the car park, followed by 61 steep stairs to the platform.
134 m and 8.5 seconds at the Nevis
The Nevis Bungy is 134 m (439 ft), which AJ Hackett calls the highest in New Zealand, and the fall lasts 8.5 seconds. The jump pod is reached by a cable car across the valley, and a suspended bridge links it to the swing and catapult. The Nevis Swing travels a 300 m (984 ft) arc, solo or in tandem. The Nevis Catapult fires riders 150 m (492 ft) across the valley, hitting 100 km/h in 1.5 seconds at up to 3 g.
The Kawarau Bridge drop is 43 m (141 ft) to the Kawarau River. You can ask for a water touch at check-in, but AJ Hackett does not promise one because it depends on the river level. The Ledge Bungy, listed as coming in summer 2026/27, is 47 m off its platform. It uses a waist harness that leaves the feet free, so jumpers can run, dive or step off.
Shotover Canyon Swing's platform is 109 m high. The drop is a 60 m freefall lasting about 4 seconds, with no bounce, before a 200 m swing lasting as long as two minutes, after which you are winched back up. The company says it offers a wide range of jump styles and that nobody has to go upside down.
High river levels and the 130 kg cap
Kawarau takes jumpers from 35 to 150 kg, solo or tandem, but the upper limit is 130 kg when the river is running high. Tandem pairs may weigh 235 kg together and no more than 30 kg apart. The Nevis Bungy and Catapult take 45 to 127 kg, the Nevis Swing 35 to 160 kg (220 kg for a tandem) and the Ledge Bungy 35 to 127 kg. Shotover Canyon Swing sets no minimum beyond fitting the harness and a 210 kg combined maximum.
Kawarau, the Nevis Swing and the Ledge Bungy take jumpers from age 10, and the Nevis Bungy and Catapult from 13. At AJ Hackett sites, an adult must sign a consent form at check-in for anyone under 15 (14 and under at the Ledge). The company turns away pregnant jumpers and anyone with photosensitive epilepsy, and a recent concussion, osteoporosis or scoliosis needs a doctor's certificate. Shotover Canyon Swing's minimum age is also 10, with no upper limit, and it says its staff have swung people with serious injuries to the neck, back and limbs.
Kawarau opens 8:30 am to 5 pm from October to April and 9 am to 4:30 pm from May to September, with the last jump 30 minutes before closing, and shuts only on Christmas Day. AJ Hackett's pages publish no weather-cancellation policy and warn that winter gets very cold. Shotover Canyon Swing is open all year except Christmas Day and says it runs in any weather.
Kawarau, the Nevis or the Shotover canyon
The Kawarau Bridge Bungy takes 1.5 hours if you drive and 2.5 hours on the Bungy Bus, and costs NZ$320 an adult and NZ$280 a child. Spectators watch free from the viewing deck. A Nevis trip takes about 4 hours from town: the Bungy is NZ$395 for adults and children alike, the Swing NZ$325 and the Catapult NZ$295. AJ Hackett includes photos and video sent straight to your phone, the bus, and a T-shirt when you book direct.
AJ Hackett lets you change or cancel up to 48 hours ahead. Its combos include the Nevis Thrillogy, all three Nevis rides for NZ$805, and The Originals, a KJet ride plus the Kawarau Bungy for NZ$449. The Ledge Bungy (NZ$240) and Ledge Swing (NZ$210) are listed but not yet open, and both will need a separate Skyline Gondola ticket.
Shotover Canyon Swing's solo swing is NZ$309, or NZ$379 with photos and video bought ahead, and a tandem for two is NZ$618. Its media package is sold per swing, so one covers a tandem. Cancelling at least 24 hours ahead gets a full refund. The company also sells a Swing & Jet combo for NZ$489 per person, and spectators pay NZ$25.
Before you book
WorkSafe's public register of adventure activity operators can be searched by trading name, activity and location, and shows whether a registration is current, cancelled or suspended.
Wear flat, secure, closed shoes for the Nevis jumps and bring a jacket in winter. If your glasses may not stay on, AJ Hackett lends prescription safety glasses free of charge.
Seats on the Bungy Bus to Kawarau are limited and shown when you book. Check in 30 minutes before the bus leaves; if it is full, you can still drive yourself.
Shotover Canyon Swing suggests booking at least 48 hours ahead, though it takes same-day bookings when there is room. Online bookings are capped at 8 people, and larger groups are arranged directly.
